The first and only five hundred dollar national bank notes issued were called first charter notes. These high denomination national bank notes will always look the same. They will either have a spiked red seal as pictured above or a round scallop-shaped seal.
Regardless of the condition, these will always bring a lot of money to the market. The likelihood of another one being discovered is extremely unlikely. But if by chance you have something like the Appleton national bank of Lowell (Charter 986), as pictured above, make sure you contact us so we can help you either sell it or keep it safe in your collection.
